LSU Announcements

UPDATED Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM:

Dear Team LSU:

The latest storm tracker indicates Carson will be impacted starting Sunday morning through Monday morning. The maintenance staff has cleared off roofs and drains around the building. Building Managers and Custodial have been instructed to close all umbrellas, terrace top shades, secure furniture and put out rain mats and signage for Monday, August 21, 2023.

As mentioned, please have staff who can telework on Monday, August 21, 2023, telework to minimize them having to come to the building. You will receive instructions from your supervisor by tomorrow, Sunday, August 20, 2023, for teleworking or reporting to work. We want non-essential staff to work from home.

The operation’s team will be in on Monday to attend to any issues with the building.

If you have any questions, contact me [email protected] or call me at 949-933-4272

Thank you,
John

Dear LSU Team:
As the fall 2022 semester comes to an end, I want to share my appreciation and admiration for you – Team LSU. Thank you for continuing to be a beacon of service and tradition for Toro Nation. This semester has been a bridge connecting our 30-year legacy “LSU30” to our vision and dreams for the “NEXT30” years.

Team LSU continues to pioneer campus traditions. As part of LSU’s 30-year anniversary celebration, our hybrid open house/welcome week event made a such a splash that it is still being talked about. I expect it set the bar for campus-wide programming moving forward. Congratulations on introducing another campus tradition.

Another way Team LSU has laid the groundwork for updating best practices was by setting a new standard for hosting ACUI regional conferences. And we accomplished this under difficult conditions.

We had a big lift this semester. We planned and hosted the first in-person ACUI Region I conference since 2019. We did this work while rebuilding our team as a result of the Pandemic – which caused the Great Resignation. Yet, we planned a successful conference while executing elevated LSU30 programs. And we did it well! So well, in fact, that you – Team LSU – received praise from a number of visiting directors. They were in awe of your expertise, friendly and rapid service, the programs and services that you support, the excellent care and maintenance of the building and resources, the strong branding creating a sense of place... The list goes on.

To every person who complimented our organization I credited you for it, because it is only possible when each of us does our part. Our collective efforts create a tremendous sense of spirit and school pride for Toro Nation. In gratitude to each of you for your part in our collective success and celebration, I THANK YOU.

My wish for our team during the winter break is that you are able to enjoy time with friends, family, and loved ones, and that you are able to relax and enjoy your favorite hobbies or guilty pleasures.

To get us started with relaxation and celebration, I invite all employees to dress in your favorite cozy or festive outfits during the last week of the year. Please make certain that your outfit is safe for your work and office appropriate.

In gratitude for your hard work and to commemorate the conclusion of the fall semester & upcoming winter break, please join us for yummy warm beverages and winter wellness crafts at our LSU Winter Event on Wednesday, December 21 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the LSU Administration Office.

I hope that you all enjoy a happy and festive winter break. For those who celebrate holidays, I send you season’s greetings. I look forward to regrouping in the new year at ALL IN on January 17, 2023, to continue our important and meaningful work.

In gratitude,
Cecilia

Dear Team LSU:

In January, LSU received notice from the campus of a delay in spring semester on-campus classes. The delay was intended to support the wellbeing of the university community, especially students. I thank everyone for your support and collaboration as we continue to navigate the emergency pandemic.

Dear Loker Leaders:

This message serves as notification that pursuant to the LSU Emergency Telecommuting Guidelines, your temporary work arrangements will end effective July 19, 2021. All employees are recalled to the work site. There will be some employees whose work spaces will not be completed by July 19th. Therefore, your supervisor will inform you of your office start date and work schedules.

After careful review of critical operations it was determined that there is a need to recall all employees to the work site given the volume of work we have to restart all operations. All personnel are needed in this endeavor.

Parking permits will not be required for the weeks of July 19th, August 2nd, and August 16th. Effective August 23rd, those driving to campus will need to purchase parking permits.

Full uniforms (with appropriate face masks) will be required. LSU has provided employees two (2) branded face masks. There will also be disposable face masks available in the Administration Office, located at the desk with two-way radios. Contact your supervisor if you need uniform replacements.

At this time, we are asking employees to complete a confidential, voluntary self-disclosure regarding your COVID-19 vaccination status. Access the submission portal via the LSU Website using our password: SLIDE. (Please note that in the near future, it is expected that all employees will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.)

CSUDH and Loker Student Union, Inc. are committed to the health and safety of our Toro community. LSU in conjunction with the campus is closely monitoring state and local health and safety protocols. Please visit Toros Together for the most current information related to repopulation, measures we're taking to keep our community well, and how you can stay safe. The attachments denote safety protocols we must all follow while on campus.

In the following days, updated information and resources will be posted on the LSU Employee Webpage.

I look forward to connecting with you upon our return.
Warm regards,
Cecilia
Dear Team LSU:

As the ever-long year 2020 sunsets, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a revolutionary experience. This year was marked by multiple events that may have been considered once-in-a-lifetime only a year ago. Though, it is my belief that we are stronger for the hardships that we have endured as we adapted and continue to do so with the evolution of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Among the events that transpired, perhaps LSU will be most changed by a hard push towards technology adoption, work-site migration, and the global anti-racism movement.

As we look ahead to 2021, CSUDH will continue virtual classes and operations in the spring semester. The LSU is poised to enhance services for students. During the past few weeks, a large tent has been erected in the ERC Platform located between Library North and LSU. The tent will serve as a “touch down” space for students enrolled in lab courses and others with need. (Details about this program will be provided during the spring ALL IN.) At long last, I am glad to inform furloughed Loker Leaders that you can expect to be recalled in January and will receive notice by email from your supervisors.

There will be a spring ALL IN and all employees (Loker Leaders and professional staff) are expected to attend. Please mark your calendars Friday, January 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Since the LSU closed its doors to the public, we have expanded our virtual presence in order to serve Toros from a safe distance. We have provided programming, resources, and support to buoy students towards their goal of graduation. We have fixed building leaks and made facility improvements to keep the building ready for our community when we can reopen. I am eternally grateful to each of you for your service, support, and patience.

A new dawning is emerging at CSUDH and I look forward to enjoying it with you.

Yours in heart and spirit,
Cecilia
Dear LSU Team:

Due to the economic impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Loker Student Union is implementing measures to ensure the financial stability of the company. The current pandemic situation has affected CSU Dominguez Hills and our business significantly, and as a result, we find that we must make some difficult personnel decisions.

Effective July 31, 2020, Loker Student Union is implementing a temporary furlough of certain nonessential positions. Furloughed employees are being placed on a temporary, unpaid leave of absence, beginning August 1, 2020. This furlough is expected to last through December 31, 2020. Impacted employees have been notified by email, mail, and meeting.

In moments like these, it helps to remind ourselves that what matters most are the relationships we enjoy with loved ones. I encourage all to support each other and our community as the pandemic crisis continues to impact our livelihoods and way of life, as we knew it.

As we prepare for this temporary personnel transition, please be reminded of employee support resources that are available.

Employee Support
The LSU has established two programs to support employee needs, the Employee Basic Needs Program and LSU Equipment Loan Program. Through these programs, our hope is to alleviate difficulties experienced in attaining needed resources and improve telecommuting for employees. Please contact Giselle Atallah at [email protected] for questions regarding employee support.

Employee Basic Needs Program
To ease the challenges in attaining non-medical basic goods, employees can schedule an appointment to purchase limited goods, such as toilet paper, water, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, hand soap, and baby wipes.

LSU Equipment Loan Program
Employees may request resources needed to work from home by completing an LSU Equipment Loan form . Support includes technological, ergonomic, and office supply resources.

Wishing you all good health and continued perseverance,
Cecilia
Dear LSU Team:
I applaud your efforts to stay at home while maintaining your coursework, and continuously supporting the DH community. It brings me joy to witness our values in action. As we serve the DH community, please note the following operational changes.

In conjunction with the University, the LSU is closed to the public effective April 1, 2020 until further notice. The organization continues its plans to retain all employees (full-time and part-time) until the end of the semester. In alignment with physical distancing protocols and guidance from LA county and state officials, limited professional staff will work on-site to support the operations (handle mail, process payroll). The LSU continues to support tenants with access to the facility to conduct essential administrative work. However, the food pantry is closed until further notice.

Employee Support
The LSU has established two programs to support employee needs, the Employee Basic Needs Program and LSU Equipment Loan Program. Through these programs, our hope is to alleviate difficulties experienced in attaining needed resources and improve telecommuting for employees.

Employee Basic Needs Program
To ease the challenges in attaining non-medical basic goods, employees can schedule an appointment to purchase limited goods, such as toilet paper, water, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, hand soap, and baby wipes. For questions or needs that are not listed, please contact Ana Maria Celis at [email protected].
  • Toilet Paper: Two (2) free rolls per employee per month. Employees can purchase a maximum of twenty four (24) rolls per month at $0.50 per roll.
  • Water: Employees can purchase a maximum of five (5) cases of 24-pack water bottles per month at $6.25 per case.
  • Feminine Hygiene Products: Employees can purchase pads and tampons currently in stock at $0.25 per unit.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Employees can purchase a maximum of one (1) 8 oz bottles per month at $2.55 per bottle.
  • Hand Soap: Employees can purchase a maximum of three (3) 7.5 oz bottles per month at $2.19 per bottle.
  • Baby Wipes: Employees can purchase a maximum of two (2) boxes at $15.62 per box, each box contains a pack of seven (7).
Prices and product availability are subject to change per our suppliers’ inventories.

LSU Equipment Loan Program Employees may request resources needed to complete your work from home. This includes technological, ergonomic, and office supply resources by completing an LSU Equipment Loan form . Assistant Directors will review requests and on-site staff will coordinate arrangements for equipment pick up. Employees will be responsible to maintain and return equipment in good condition. Please contact Giselle Atallah at [email protected] for equipment loan questions.

At this time, we are exploring mailing office supplies to employees’ homes. More information will be made available in the near future.

For employees interested in retrieving personal items from the building, please contact your Assistant Director for approval and arrangements. For those vulnerable to COVID-19, I ask that you consider the urgency and risk in retrieving your personal items at this time versus waiting until the pandemic crisis subsides.
Finally, to help keep our spirits up and to enjoy the comradery of the Toro Nation, I invite you all to join online programs sponsored by LSU. It’s where the party’s at.

Dear LSU Team:
As the LSU operates with limited staff on-site and the remaining staff telecommuting, the organization has received questions from concerned employees regarding possible unemployment.

To address these concerns, I can share that *at this time* the organization intends to retain all employees (full-time and part-time) by providing meaningful work that can be done from home. We will continue operating in this capacity through the end of the semester. As May approaches, the organization will evaluate the present conditions to make decisions regarding future operations and employment.

Rest assured that the LSU has no intention of issuing employee lay-offs at this time. We encourage the LSU team to share concerns and difficulties as we navigate through this COVID-19 crisis. Connect with your supervisors if you need support and/or access to resources.

Stay safe and healthy.

Warm regards,
Cecilia

As we are all experiencing some difficulties attaining basic goods such as paper products and water, the LSU wants to help ease these challenges. We have established a support system for employees. Ana Maria Celis will serve as a point person to contact if you need support with non-medical basic needs. She is a confidential employee and will work with Cecilia Ortiz to assist you. You may reach Ana via email at [email protected] to inform her of your needs. Look for an email from Ana next week that will explain the benefits of this temporary program. At this time, we are preparing to make toilet paper rolls available to staff at no cost up to a specific amount and additional rolls may be sold for fifty-cents each. We hope that basic needs support can help alleviate some of the stress you may be experiencing. We’re all in this together and together we will get through it.

Precautions
Avoiding contact is the best way to prevent infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following measures to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is recommended.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with infected patients.
  • Isolate at home during the illness.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue into a trash can. If you do not have a tissue on hand, use your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces that you often touch.
If you want to learn more about the Coronavirus, take a moment to review accurate information and guidelines offered by the CDC and other government agencies, including the OSHA.
